Student Led Transition Program
BPS is committed to ensuring a peer-led, safe, and positive transition for students from military families into our schools. For support, please contact PBE’s Military Point of Contact (listed at the top of this webpage), our School Principal, Assistant Principal, School Counselor or Community Liaison.
Palm Bay Elementary boasts an active Safety Patrol. Several students on our Patrol are also students from Military Families. When a new student enters Palm Bay Elementary, and that student has a military family connection, a member of our Safety Patrol who has a military family connection will be paired with the new student for a school tour and welcome conversation. The Patrol will be responsible for introducing the new student to several key people at our school, to include our Principal, Assistant Principal, School Counselor, and Mr. Smith, our Military Point of Contact. During the school tour, the patrol will introduce the new student to our Activity Teacher Team (Art, Music, Media, STEM, PE), and share information about extracurricular opportunities. Mrs. Miller, a teacher at Palm Bay Elementary for over 25 years, will serve as the Transition Team Coordinator. Our Front Office Clerk will alert Mrs. Miller to newly enrolled students with a military family connection. Mrs. Miller will ensure the proper Patrol connects with the new student, and she will also connect with the parent(s) of the newly enrolled child(ren) to determine if an adult family member is interested in becoming an approved volunteer or becoming a member of our School Advisory Council.
